Notes from the Editor:

First, I want to thank Janet Terra. She signed on to our publishing team to help us edit and format submissions from the public. As you can all see, she does much more! She is a contributing editor and her articles and programs are terrific! That isn't all, though. She proofreads the entire newsletter! She's found errors in my articles and she always has constructive suggestions. Janet, you are the best!

Tom Nally gives us a terrific way to create great looking help systems for our applications with Bitmap Help - A Simple Help Engine This is easy enough for anyone to learn and use, and it looks so professional! Best of all, it is all done with native Liberty BASIC commands. Thanks, Tom!

Gordon Sweet shares two more of his useful demo programs. This month, we have Long Filename Lister and Clearing Out Error Logs These programs are not only useful in themselves, but they also demonstrate some great coding methods. Thanks very much, Gordon!

Every program by Janet Terra is a treat, and this month we have a clever demo that shows us how to print hard copies using scaled fonts. Printing With Liberty BASIC v4.01 Her demo program includes an addictive and extremely clever word search game. This is great stuff, Janet!

We also have a tutorial on printing text and graphics to create forms using the new LB 4.01 hard-copy printing capabilities in Printing Forms with LB4.01

Check out the Tip Corner - Strings Instead of Arrays for a helpful and quick method to manage string data.

The Sprite Byte series returns this month in Sprite Byte: Computer-Controlled Sprite This program adds a computer-controlled enemy ship to the previous sprite demos. It has some artificial intelligence as well. Just try to avoid this bad guy!

Using Qcard DLL - Lesson 4 continues the series of lessons on this great playing card DLL.

Do it Right! offers some advice on creating professional-looking programs that will impress everyone!

I'd like to take a moment to say a special thanks to John Davidson. He managed a contest for Libby, which is a shell program that includes many amazing open source applications written in LB. The entries were fantastic, and the prizes were wonderful! John worked really hard on this one, and he deserves a lot of praise! Thanks, John!

SUBMISSIONS

The Liberty BASIC Newsletter encourages all LB programmers to submit articles for publication. Everyone has something valuable to say, from beginners to veteran LBers. Consider sharing a code routine, with explanation. Perhaps you can review a favorite LB website, or program, or coding tool? Why not submit a list of questions that have been nagging at you? How about sharing your favorite algorithm?
